Ready for Jingpo Translation Services? Our New Team Is!

There are only around 200 countries in the world, but they share approximately 7,000 languages amongst themselves. This clearly means that most of the world’s languages are minority languages, spoken separately from the national or official language(s) by smaller groups in a country. South and Southeast Asia are hotspots for such minority languages, with numerous countries in the region boasting more than 100 languages spoken domestically. Amidst the plethora of languages in the region, we find Jingpo.

Jingpo has about 1,000,000 native speakers, so although it’s a minority language, it’s a pretty big one. You may also see it spelled Jinghpaw, which is derived from its native name, Jinghpaw ga, and it’s sometimes alternatively called Kachin, although this name is misleading, since it can refer to a number of other, related languages, such as Lisu, Lashi, Rawang, Zaiwa, or Achang. Jingpo acts as a local lingua franca, exercising significant influence over these smaller languages. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find translation services for Jingpo, which is why we at TranslationServices.com have endeavored to launch our own Jingpo translation services.

Diving into Jingpo, a local lingua franca in Myanmar

The majority of Jingpo speakers reside in the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar, particularly in Kachin State, where the language is learned by speakers of smaller languages. However, Jingpo has international reach, with communities also speaking it in neighboring Yunnan, China, as well as Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in India. The Indian variety, known as Singpo, is highly divergent, sharing only 50% of its vocabulary. A number of other Jingo dialects exist, including Duleng, Dzili, Hkaku, Kauri, Mungji, Zawbung, and Shanke.

As a member of the Sino–Tibetan language family, Jingpo is related to both Burmese, the national language of Myanmar, and Mandarin, the dominant language of China. However, the relation is only distant. Jingpo is typically written in the Latin alphabet, with a small portion of speakers using the Burmese alphabet. Jingpo’s grammar is complex, too. It uses a subject-object-verb word order, which is common around the world, and it features almost no inflection, which is typical in Southeast Asian languages. However, it does mark the subject and tense in verbal particles, which are written separately from the verb itself. Translating to and from Jingpo is a tricky task, suitable only for experienced native speakers—so it’s best to work with experts like the ones on our team.
