We’re your go-to solution for reliable Tamil interpretation services.

If you don’t know that much about the linguistic landscape of India (and let’s face it, most people don’t), you might assume everyone in the country speaks Hindi as their first language—but in fact, Hindi is the mother tongue of only 43% of Indians. Other languages, like Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, account for massive swaths of the population as well. Indeed, as the native language of 5.7% of the Indian population (and more speakers in Sri Lanka), Tamil is a major South Asian language—and with English proficiency low in the region, you’ll need a Tamil interpreter to get by.

At TranslationServices.com, we’re proud to offer Tamil interpretation services to anyone who needs them. We’ve been careful to hire skilled interpreters from across the Tamil-speaking region—that includes the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as well as the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, not to mention several other states in India, such as Kerala, Telangana, and Maharashtra. We even have Tamil interpreters across Malaysia, the US, Canada, Singapore, and beyond—so we’re ready to serve you from almost anywhere!

Learning more about Tamil, an important Indian language

You might think Tamil is related to Hindi, but in fact, they come from entirely different language families. Tamil, which is the native language of more than 78 million people and the second language of more than 8 million, is the second-largest member of the Dravidian family, which comprises much of southern India. With a literary history stretching over more than 2,000 years, the Tamil language is an important cultural asset for the Indian people and was India’s first designated “classical language.”

In Tamil, verbs usually come at the end of a sentence, after the object, in a subject-object-verb word order—although word order can be flexible. Tamil speakers may omit the subject when it’s obvious from context, and since verbs take a person marker, it’s often easy to determine the subject anyway. Pronouns in Tamil can get tricky, with a distinction between “high-class” and “low-class” third-person plural pronouns, with a separate version used for animals and objects. Tamil also includes multiple words for we depending on whether you want to include the listener.

In person or online: what’s your preference for Tamil interpretation services?

With a multifaceted Tamil interpretation team stretched across India, Sri Lanka, and beyond, it’s easy for us to accommodate the needs of a diverse clientele. We can interpret for you on site or remotely—it’s your choice!

If you prefer in-person interpretation services for Tamil, just tell us where you’re located. If you’re in Tamil Nadu or Puducherry—or elsewhere in India or Sri Lanka—we have lots of local Tamil interpreters ready to serve you. If you’re somewhere else, as long as there are Tamil-speaking communities in the area, we likely have team members there, too. But if not, we’ll send an interpreter to you by plane (in exchange for an increased fee, naturally).

Alternatively, you can take advantage of our remote Tamil interpretation services as long as you have a reliable internet connection and a telecommunications app such as Zoom or Skype. Or you can use the traditional phone lines! Remote interpretation services are simple: our Tamil interpreter connects to your call and offers the same interpretation services they would in person, with less flexibility and personalization but more convenience.

Simultaneous vs. consecutive Tamil interpretation: both are available!

We proudly offer our Tamil interpretation services in both simultaneous and consecutive form. If you’re not sure what that means, allow us to introduce the concepts.

Simultaneous interpretation is a service in which our interpreter translates the content at the same time that the original speaker talks. With great concentration, they listen to the speech while translating it at the same time. This extremely effortful type of interpretation works well for one-way communication, such as live television broadcasts, presentations, speeches, or even large conferences.

Consecutive interpretation is where our interpreter translates between two or more parties, with one side using Tamil and the other English. The interpreter has more time to consider their translation, increasing the accuracy, and they can even ask the speaker for clarification if anything is unclear. This more dynamic type of interpretation is ideal for interviews, small business meetings or conferences, and other situations with a lot of back-and-forth communication.

We can even provide Tamil interpretation services for technical content.

If your speech or conversation topic is filled with technical jargon, it doesn’t matter how experienced your Tamil interpreter is—without specialized knowledge in your field, they simply can’t interpret your content accurately. But don’t worry! We’ve hired Tamil interpreters who are experts in a wide array of disciplines, so we likely have an expert in your niche—just reach out with your specific needs!

Providing high-quality Tamil interpretation services is important to us. No matter where you are or why you’re looking for Tamil interpretation services, feel free to send us a message to see what we can do for you!
